Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced his full support on Cambodian monarchy.
“If anyone wishes to destroy a monarchy in Cambodia, one shall pass my corpse first,” speaking in meeting with more than 900 Cambodians in Switzerland on 23 October 2018.
Prime Minister recalled that he has favored monarchy and followed His Majesty’s decisions ever since by fighting Lon Nol regime. He also reinstated monarchy after winning over the Lon Nol’s Khmer Republic and Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge.
The premier regarded the critics against monarchy as a single group that had overthrown and betrayed the monarchy and joined other countries. He argued by raising developed countries such as Belgium and UK as the examples of monarchy.
“They dismissed our king, and I brought His Majesty back. I voted for the King twice, first for King Father Norodom Sihanouk and second for the current King. So, I fulfilled my obligation as a Khmer, not as the son of the traitor who betrayed the King,” the premier said.
The son of the traitor who betrayed the King might refer to Sam Rainsy, who was Sam Sary’s son, an elite who was condemned by King Father as the traitor.
According to Desbibliothecaires et Documentali stes Cambodgiens, Sam Sary, during 1956, conspired with the United States in an attempt to overthrow the Sangkum Reastr Niyum regime of late King Norodom Sihanouk, the leader who gave him many attributes and titles.
“The father of the country is called the King and I respect the King for the rest of my life,” Prime Minister underlined.
