From Facebook, on 7 December 2015, Samdech Techo said that this year, all agricultural crops, especially rice – both rainy and dry season rice – have faced up with water shortage challenges. Along with measures set out already by the Royal Government of Cambodia, Samdech Techo advised concerned institutions to help save people’s rice by providing irrigation assistance, while warning not to leave rice damaging in area with water resources.
The head of Royal Government instructed armed forces and officials to organize teams to help labor-shortage households for old age, being single-headed, being handicap or disable and soldiers’ families – harvest rice, while advising agricultural agencies to provide seeds for farmers, who cannot cultivate dry season rice. Samdech suggested agencies to motivate farmers to grow other subsidiary crops. While urging intervention ready for pest and insect control, Samdech Techo raised an opinion for concerned financial institutions and banks to work out repayment flexibility of debt contracts – by either prolonging repayment schedule or readjusting interest – for people whose crops suffered losses due to natural calamity to avert problems of confiscation of houses or properties./.
