On 14 January 2016, receiving Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and delegation at the Peace Palace, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed great pleasure in working with Hungary that established relation with Cambodia since 1963. The Hungarian Foreign Minister expressed his admiration to Samdech Techo’s leadership that brought Cambodia progress and high economic growth over the past 20 years. Recently, to move cooperation between the two countries into a new level, Hungary opened its trade office and a credit bank in Cambodia. Hungary expressed its interest in collaborating and assisting Cambodia in the fields of water management, agriculture, information technology, and infrastructure. As far as human resource training and development is concerned, Hungary promised to provide 15 scholarships per year for Cambodia. The two countries vowed to strengthen cooperation in economics, trade, and tourism along with efforts to further bilateral relations.
On the same day, Samdech Techo welcomes Samuel Kim and the Asia Centre’s Asia Leadership Trek 2016 of the Harvard University consisting of 25 students from 12 institutions representing 11 countries in the Peace Palace. Aside from counseling how to become a good leader in the future, Samdech Techo shared with visitors Cambodia’s experience in setting out and implementing win-win policy, which ended war and brought about peace for the country. Samdech Techo clarified for the students the role of ASEAN in keeping regional peace and peacefully resolving problem in the South China Sea, where, he stressed, concerned countries must work directly together to avoid complicating others in the region. Implementing reforms, judicial and anti-corruption efforts included, are factors that ensured economic growth and improved social justice, which guaranteed interest of the people.
Mr. Samuel Kim, who visited Cambodia several times, affirmed Cambodia’s sixth faster growing country in the world and advance on positive path are reasons for the team’s choice of visit./.
