Let People Define the Benefit of “I Am the Cambodian Youth Model”
Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome the contestants who won supports of their works and are present here. I am having a great opportunity to meet with all of you who have won the Cambodian Youth Model Awards, as is reported by Mr. Duong Dara, about the initiative and process of organizing the contest. I would not contain its meaning to so and so but would like to give a chance to contestants to give their feedback and argue the significance of the program and its interaction. We have defined the program’s objectives to steer our youth away from drugs and to perform merit actions … however, we need to leave opportune moment for them to give their feedback whether the program would be more beneficial than what we have aimed for. We could anticipate interaction with other sectors and, based on that, develop more initiatives and programs.
I would like to take this opportune moment to emphasize that our biggest issue was to achieve a great amount of human resource. While observing that a small number of people may have used Facebook inappropriately, we need to draw people’s attention that Facebook could be useful if we know how to use it and use it properly. It helps people, even leaders, think, and make decision. However, it is so unfortunate that in some Facebook pages, people blame each other in comments. Using Facebook could be good for social and personal morale, and performing merit action.
E-People
In another instance, I want to achieve e-government but also e-people. I wish that our youth would go into information technology. Through this contest, we could say that it has indicated a big success. We did ask people to bring their papers to the Council of Ministers … everything is online. They had to register and get the votes in (the Prime Minister) website and get to go through voting again in Facebook. It has quite a large-scale interaction with knowledge of our youth. Formerly, they would have to carry papers and present them to a certain place … now, that is not the case anymore. No matter how far are we, a small smart phone could do the job.
I wish for our youth to have better knowledge. I looked at the VDO clip of successful contestant Pen Li Heng … I could imagine the team spirit that was put behind the production … It was of course impossible for him to make it all alone. Our topics were to perform merit action, avoid doing bad and harmful actions in society, and do whatever good and useful for society. I have mentioned already that we need to leave the program for people to make their judgments and what implications it may have on other things we may not have seen at this point […]
Anyone Can Say Their Minds in My Facebook Page
… I am calling on all not to insult each other in my account/page. Arguing is acceptable but insulting is unconstructive. My Facebook page is up to a democratic principle that anyone can get in and say what they have in mind. Though their ideas may not align with ours, we could consider them as inputs, on which we could make use at any suitable time. Those ideas may not fit with the topic we have chosen now but would be for one later. I wish every youth, though handicap they may be, know about information technology […]
… My Facebook, I confirm, is not for competing with anyone. I would not bother about “Like” or “Unlike.” I started to use Facebook not long ago and by this time my Facebook “Like” is a few hundred short to get to 3,700,000 … Some have resorted to get angry with me. I would tell him to go talk to Facebook himself because I do not create those data … We cannot put a barrier preventing people anywhere from pressing “Like.” In the past, they were not happy with the National Election Committee when they did not win the elections. Now they bother me. I do not create data myself. They can talk to Facebook […]
“I Am the Cambodian Youth Model” Will Go On
… The major issue here is that I wanted our youth to get a good hand on information technology in general, not only Facebook. In the past, we used to have human messengers who travel on bicycles, motorcycles, or even their feet, to deliver messages. Nowadays, over hundreds of thousands of kilometers, messages could get across over WhatsApp, Telegram, Line, or Viber. Recipients would receive it in no time. Some people have written on comment panel that they were unaware of the program and the time given was too short. Some suggested that the program must go on. I am making a point here that the program will go on until people are not interested.
… We will choose only the top one per week and we may extend it to ten days. The processing of deciding who will be the best will be up to the people who vote. They first get the votes in the website of the Prime Minister and then in Prime Minister’s Facebook. Whoever get the most likes will get to the top. If one failed in one subject, they may try in others as we have four of them to choose from […]
… I have decided to offer iPhone because I want to encourage the use of information technology and to give a signal that our youth is making their headway into IT world. We have prepared sportswear for them too. Aside from IT, we also encourage our youth to practice sports … We are providing a sum of 200,000 Riel for every top contestant, Top-1 and Top-10. In one contest, we will need a sum of two million Riel. I would like to reemphasize that for Top-1 contestant – Pen Li Heng, he received one iPhone 6, and two sets of sportswear, plus 200,000 Riel. Nine other contestants received two sets of sportswear and 200,000 Riel too […]
Rebuilding Stoeung Treng Market for People
… I do not have only five children and a dozens of grandchildren. I have to think of people in the whole country. Yesterday, I talked to the governor of Stoeng Treng, commander of the engineering team and people who reacted to my Facebook comments on the issue. Finally, I told people that I would rebuild the market for them. Some asked whether they had to rent, or buy or get them free of charge. I will rebuild it. There is no investor. I build the market for them to operate their business without paying for the stands. However, they have to pay tax according to the state law. I already paid for their stands […]
People Should Stop Political Coloring
… After this, top-10 contestants will have a photo session with me downstairs, where I normally welcome heads of state and government … because we create this program not for gaining popularity but for progress of Cambodian youth and people. I hope some people would not accuse me of doing this to gain votes. However, frankly speaking, for what do they do? They blame and attack others because they want people’s votes. I also want people’s votes. How could they accuse me of doing so? Well, to get votes is not a major issue here. I did not ask or force people to vote. If they think I take correct action, bring them peace and development, they may vote for me […]
… Some people would go all the way to blame other people to be (puppet of) Vietnam if those people no longer give their support. They brand them so and so. It is dangerous. If we have more of these people in our country, fighting will come. Time after Hun Sen, war would arise, if thing goes like this. Pol Pot killed many by branding so and so working for CIA, KGB, and being capitalists … It was a political coloring. It led to national devastation./.
