Cambodian People’s Party (CPP)’s spokesman Sok Eysan said Tuesday that the presence of exiled opposition leader Sam Rainsy at Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) a violation of Cambodian democratic rights, independence, and sovereignty.
“Sam Rainsy has no rights to attend international forums. Rainsy does not represent Cambodian people,” Eysan said adding that, “Rainsy is just a traitor and wanderer, and puppet of foreigners.”
“The presence of Rainsy violated the international principle in which head of the IPU shall be responsible for the shameful political bias,” he continued.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union convened the 139th General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland from 12-20 October 2018.
At the invitation of Gabriela Cuevas Barron, President of the IPU, Second Vice-President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Ms. Khoun Sudary led the Cambodian delegation to attend the General Assembly.
Meanwhile, Sam Rainsy, former president of the Cambodian opposition party, was also present and claimed that he was invited by the IPU President to attend the General Assembly..
According to Sok Eysan, the Cambodian People’s Party is fully supportive of the protest of the Cambodian delegates to IPU against Sam Rainsy’s presence.
The ruling party also condemns the illegal behavior of political dissidents and international ideologies.
