Presiding over the celebration of the 11th Anniversary of Cambodian Veterans on Monday at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the housing for veterans is a priority.
He added that the Royal Government of Cambodia has decided to withdraw about $1 million from the construction of Military Base 128 to support the activities of the Veterans Association of Cambodia.
“Today, on behalf of the president of the Veteran Association and the Royal Government, I announce to withdraw $1 million from the construction of the military base to implement housing for the veterans. Considering this as the beginning of a campaign to cope with the difficulties of the veterans,” stated the premier.
He added that companies and donors can help the veterans in many ways whether in cash or the construction supplies from their companies.
So far, the Royal Government has paid close attention to improve the living conditions of the veterans and disables, including monthly allowance for the family, additional fund of $13 for Khmer New Year, the increase of monthly social security system for the veterans, the launch of ATM service through 25 provinces, healthcare services, and the implementation of policies on granting social land concessions to veterans and their families.
Prime Minister Hun Sen said that a total of 86,905 veterans and 129,716 others are enjoying state-funded policy, which has been adjusted in line with national economic growth and salary increases for civil servants and armed forces.
To facilitate the living of the veteran’s family, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has decided to provide two additional benefits, including the 50% contributions of monthly payment for veterans’ services, and free healthcare.
