Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has projected that the rice yields this year would be higher than the previous year.
After keeping a certain amount of paddy rice for local consumption and seeds, there would be about 5 million tons of paddy rice left for export this year, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said at the inauguration ceremony of a portion of the National Road No. 76 held this morning in Rattanakiri province.
To prevent the falling rice prices, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on the farmers to keep and dry up their rice yields well, and sought understanding from the microfinance institutions that have provided loans to farmers, stressing that not only Cambodia, but other countries in the region and the world have been facing with this low rice prices.
At the same time, Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged for the strengthening of rice export to European market besides China (200,000 tons) and Vietnam (300,000 tons).
