On 28 December 2015, Samdech Techo Hun Sen informed Cambodian people throughout the country, especially those who reside and use the Veng Sreng road in Phnom Penh that since after midnight into 28 December, Samdech Techo decided to take back the Veng Sreng road from private company, place it under state management and allow use without paying fee anymore. Samdech Techo wrote – “Dear people living along the Veng Sreng road, I just learnt from my Facebook account about the fact that you have to pay 1,100 Riel or a sticker that costs 132,000 Riel for your cars (to get permission to use the road) … For me, you must not pay whatever price for using the road …”
In subsequent postings, Samdech Techo confirmed “I am giving the Veng Sreng road back to the people to use free of charge as a New Year present. I am grateful to our citizen who brought this news on Facebook about their problems regarding the Veng Sreng road to my attention.” After a thorough looking into the issue, the Royal Government decided to buy investment of the Veng Sreng road, while “the Municipality of Phnom Penh and the private company involved will cease their fee collection as of this moment,” Samdech Techo wrote. He made it clear that the decision and implementation is a 2016 New Year present for our people, while hoping that they will be happy with the news and respect traffic law./.
