Wang Wentian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, appreciated Cambodia’s development under the leadership of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, especially the decrease of electricity prices in 2019.
His statement was made Monday afternoon during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong at the Cambodia-China Friendship Building in Phnom Penh.
Cambodia’s Hor Namhong thanked the Chinese government for purchasing 300,000 tons of Cambodian rice in 2018 and for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on purchasing Cambodian bananas. He also requested China to buy Cambodian pepper, mango, and other agricultural products.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, about 1.8 million Chinese tourists have visited Cambodia in 2018 and the number will grow to more than two million by 2020.
During a courtesy call on Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Samrin, Ambassador Wang stressed that the Chinese government pledged to support Cambodia’s politics, independence, sovereignty, and development, especially support Cambodia to play more significant role in international diplomacy.
