On 5 March 2016, inaugurating the SOS Children’s Village – Kompot, Samdech Techo Hun Sen appealed to the Cambodian people to consume local salt produced from seawater evaporation rather than those mined and imported from abroad. Samdech Techo drew consumers attention that salt produced locally also iodized to help prevent people from thyroid issue. Relating to activities carried out by SOS Children’s Villages International (SOS-CVI) in Cambodia, Samdech Techo expressed satisfaction with cooperation, jointly conducted since 1999, which until the present spent over 26 million USD to help nearly 2,000 Cambodian orphans in six centers. Samdech Techo affirmed that the Royal Government of Cambodia will continue cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages International and advises provinces interested to reserve land for cooperation with SOS Children’s Villages International in building orphanages and education facilities. Samdech Techo considered SOS Children’s Villages International a major contribution with the Royal Government through the Ministry of Social and Veteran Affair, and Youth Rehabilitation in providing shelters, education, rights and freedom protection to develop themselves. Samdech Techo decided to offer a piece of land near the SOS – Children’s Village Kompot for the construction of a high school building for orphans in the village as well as those in the area./.
