Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today, me and my wife have a great pleasure and honor to join Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen in the Inauguration Ceremony of the Angkor National Museum which does not only aim at raising people’s awareness on the value of history, arts, and cultural heritage, but it also makes substantial contribution to the Cultural Tourism.
On behalf of the Royal Government, my wife’s and myself, I highly appreciate the board of directors, the management and all levels of staff of the Angkor National Museum as well as the Apsara Authority, Tourism Authority, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, and Siem Reap Provincial Authority who have supported the construction of the Angkor National Museum which will play an important role in the cultural studies and conservation to enhance the development of national arts and culture.
I agree with Her Excellency chair of the board of director who states that the construction of this museum is an effective means to maximize the benefits from the globalization of “cultural gathering” which will attract international appreciation and recognition for our culture, tradition and custom through national and international visiting tourists.
I believe that the inauguration of this Angkor National Museum will create a new opportunity to promote Cambodian cultural tourism which will become a dynamic source for the flow of tourists who admire and are eager to discover our cultural heritage that links with old temples, resorts, historic sites, as well as all kinds of the national natural treasures such as forests, sea, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, valleys, mountains etc.
The Angkor National Museum also acts as a catalyst for the people’s mental development, through better education and thoughtfulness, better understanding and admiration of our national identity, relationship improvement, encouragement of respect and conservation of our cultural heritage and natural environment, as well as contributing to the strengthening of social peace, stability, order and facilitating the gathering of various nationalities and cultures. Without any doubt, these features will create a perfect condition for improving the people’s well-beings and quality of lives.
Cambodia has enjoyed comparative advantages and major potentials in tourism sector and tourism-related services. These advantages link closely to the cultural and historical heritages as well as the beautiful scenery of beaches, rivers, lakes, mountains, islands, and forests. Cambodia’s geographical conditions have provided countless and unique attractions for “Cultural and Natural Tourism”.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to appeal to all people, officials in all ministries and institutions, related authorities, private sector, development partners, national and international non-government organizations to continue providing your support and contribute to the development of Cambodia’s “Cultural and Natural Tourism” sector to develop a successful and sustainable tourism sector.
Me and my wife wish the Angkor National Museum success, especially in the implementation of “conservation for development and development for conservation” principle, which reflects the close relationship between conservation for the purpose of development and abstract the benefits from development to conserve cultural heritage.
Finally, I would like to wish Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen with Five Gems of Buddha Blessings. May I now declare the opening of the Angkor National Museum.
