Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his Thai counterpart H.E. Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha have held a fruitful bilateral meeting, on the sidelines of the 2nd Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Delegate Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, told reporters at Phnom Penh International Airport yesterday afternoon after the return of the Cambodian delegation that the talks between the two leaders focused on bilateral cooperation, particularly land, water, air, people-to-people, institution-to-institution, and government-to-government connectivity.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the railway connection between the two nations would be completed before the end of this year. He hoped that both premiers will travel together on this connected railway.
The resumption of negotiations between the Joint Border Committees of the two countries after two years of interruption, the opening of more international border gates, the halt in unilateral closure or opening of border gates as well as maritime overlapping areas and hydropower dam construction project at Stung Metek in the Cambodian province of Koh Kong were also raised on the occasion.
Regarding the issue of 240,000 legal and illegal Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand, the Cambodian premier asked for cooperation from the Thai side in providing passports to them so that they can work legally in Thailand.
Both Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed their satisfaction with the growing trade exchange between the two countries, and agreed to boost the two-way trade up to US$15 billion in the near future.
Besides, the meeting touched upon the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat to be hosted in Cambodia in February 2017, and the 9th CLMV and 8th ACMEC meetings.
