Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen received here this afternoon at the Peace Palace visiting Washington State Senator H.E. Doug Ericksen.
According to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Delegate Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, H.E. Doug Ericksen noted the rapid progress of Cambodia under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
The visiting Washington State senator said Cambodia is a small country with only 16 million population, but the country has been playing a key role in the region. The world cannot order Cambodia to follow what they want, only the Cambodian people can set their own destiny, he stressed.
H.E. Doug Ericksen added that what he wishes to see now is the continued good cooperation between the U.S. and Cambodia, especially the relations between the people of both nations. He also wanted the American citizens and investors to come and see the real situation in Cambodia.
The Cambodian people are the U.S.’ friend, not an enemy, so does the Cambodian People’s Party, he said. “Therefore, we need to do our best to build good relations between the two countries.”
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed warm welcome to H.E. Doug Ericksen, hoping that he will return to Cambodia during the July National Election as an election observer.
The Premier thanked H.E. Doug Ericksen for understanding Cambodia’s real situation, saying that those who do not come to Cambodia will not understand it.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to transform itself into an upper middle-income nation in 2030 and a high-income economy in 2050 as well as the good cooperation between Cambodia and the U.S. in all sectors, particularly in the areas of trade, tourism and investment.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister told H.E. Doug Ericksen of the forthcoming 6th National Election with the participation of many different political parties because Cambodia fully adheres to the liberal multi-party democracy.
