Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen together with his ASEAN counterparts attended the Informal Dialogue between ASEAN and APEC Leaders held in Da Nang city, Vietnam, yesterday afternoon under the theme “Partnering for New Dynamism for a Comprehensively Connected and Integrated Asia-Pacific.”
In his keynote address, Samdech Techo Hun Sen laid stress on the importance of ASEAN and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) partnership to boost growth and sustainable, innovative and architectural development as well as integration into the global economy.
In this spirit, there are many opportunities for both regions to cooperate in seeking new growth sources, strengthen innovation, support regional production network as well as reduce obstacles to integration through increasing regional free trade agreements, a key part of the APEC’s efforts to open the region, he underlined.
Anyway, he added, the contribution of ASEAN with APEC is still limited as three ASEAN members namely Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar are non-members of APEC. He therefore requested the leaders of APEC countries to consider accepting the full membership of the three countries as well as to invite the ASEAN chairman and secretary general to join the APEC summit every year.
