Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen reaffirmed that Cambodian garment workers will receive minimum monthly wage of $182, remunerated fortnightly, from January 2019, addressing in a meeting with 20,000 workers in Kandal province on Wednesday.
He also urged garments and enterprises’ employers to stand ready to implement the above policy.
“From January 2019, garment workers’ wage will be remunerated fortnightly. The policy applies to both public and private sectors,” the premier underlined.
To improve the living conditions of government officials, the Royal Government of Cambodia has set to increase salary twice a year: a 10 per cent increase of base salary in January 2019 and the increase of bonuses in April.
According to Prime Minister, approximately 60,000 workers will deliver babies counting till the end of 2018.
It is worth noting that on 1 January 2018, the Royal Government has decided to allocate approximately $10 million annually for maternal support to garment workers.
Based on the policy, each female worker who delivers one child receives 400,000 Riels ($100), a twin receive 800,000 Riels ($200), and a triplet receive 1,200,000 riel ($300).
