Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, on Wednesday, welcomed the inter-Korean and U.S.-South Korea Summits as it is an important step toward building a lasting win-win cooperation and denuclearizing in the Korean Peninsula.
His remark was made at the 20th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, held on 14 November 2018 in Singapore, presided over by Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong, with a participation of by leaders of ASEAN member countries and President of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Moon Jae-in.
Cambodia welcomed the Inter-Korean Summits held on 27 April 2018, 26 May 2018 and from 18 to 20 September 2018, as well as the Singapore Summit between the United States (US) and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 12 June 2018; the Panmunjom Declaration and the Pyongyang Joint Declaration signed between President Moon Jae-in of the ROK and Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK Kim Jong Un, as well as the Joint Statement signed between US President Donald J Trump and Chairman Kim.
Cambodia agreed to convene the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in the ROK in 2019 to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-ROK Dialogue Relations; and welcomed the ROK’s New Southern Policy initiated by President Moon Jae-in last year, which aimed to further strengthen and deepen ASEAN-ROK relations based on the three pillars of “People, Prosperity and Peace”.
Cambodia urged all concerned parties to continue working towards the realization of lasting peace and stability on a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.
The summit agreed to implement the ASEAN-ROK Action Plan 2016 – 2020 to enhance cooperation in wide-ranging areas; and adopt ASEAN-ROK Summit Chairman’s Statement.
