Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc pledged to strengthen cooperation between the two nations, particularly by completing border demarcation in 2019.
According to Vietnamese Prime Minister, the two sides had finished resolving 84 per cent of controversial border lines, in which 314 of 375 markers had been demarcated, while the 16 per cent left is being negotiated.
Prime Minister Hun Sen also stressed that Cambodia-Vietnam strategies are to transform all former battlefields in Cambodia into a strategic and market development zone, and to transform all the border areas into zone of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
It is worth noting that Cambodia-Vietnam share border of 1,270 km. The border was a battlefield between the late 1960s and 1970s, but was transformed into market and zone of peace and development today.
At the invitation of H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen is leading a high-level delegation to pay an official visit to the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on 6-8 December 2018, according to Cambodian foreign affairs ministry’s press release dated 4 December 2018.
The visit aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two countries as well as to discuss various bilateral, regional, and international issues of common interests and concerns for the mutual benefits of the two nations.
2018 marks the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of Cambodia and Viet Nam.
