Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, held talks here yesterday afternoon at the Peace Palace with visiting Lord David Puttnam, British Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy, on the trade relations between the two countries after Brexit.
H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian premier told reporters that Lord David Puttnam informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen that Brexit did not affect the Cambodia-UK trade relationship.
The trade envoy also highly valued and expressed his optimism over the current development trend in Cambodia, he said.
“Lord David Puttnam told Samdech Techo Hun Sen of British exit of the European Union, stressing that he noted no changing sign impacting the trade tie between Cambodia and UK in this transitional period,” the assistant said.
For his part, he added, Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Lord David Puttnam for the information and he was convinced that the Brexit process will not affect the trade exchange between the two nations.
The premier also raised Cambodia’s intention to increase the two-way trade as both countries still have more room to boost their trade exchange.
Last year, the bilateral trade between Cambodia and UK reached more than US$1 billion, and about 64 British companies were registered in Cambodia.
