Cambodia is strongly committed to maintaining peace and continuing to contribute to the peace building in the region and the world, underlined Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen in his message to his compatriots on the International Day of Peace (Sept. 21).
“The strong determination was made because we understand clearly about the value of ‘peace’ after we had experienced nearly three-decade of war, basically the Pol Pot genocidal regime which had destroyed the country almost completely. The peace that we have today is born from the historical victory of Jan. 7, 1979, which ended the dark time of the barbaric regime,” he stated.
Peace has been fully achieved in 1998 thanks to the royal government’s “Win Win” policy which brought about national unity up to the present day, he added.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen went on to say that the priceless peace has allowed Cambodia and her people to regain independence, mastership of their own destiny, all kinds of rights and freedoms along with economic development and social progress.
With the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia, the participation of the Cambodian people in maintaining and strengthening peace is very important, he stressed.
The Cambodian premier thus called on all his compatriots to keep maintaining and protecting peace, enhancing the spirit of responsibility for the nation, strengthening national unity, and respecting the culture of non-violence.
