Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced to buy Sastra Sleuk Rith, palm leaf manuscripts, with double price to be kept at pagodas and schools across Cambodia with an aim to take part in preserving this Khmer heritage and to share it with the younger generation.
While meeting with Mrs. Phoeun Phavy, a skillful Sastra Sleuk Rith engraver, in Siem Reap province yesterday afternoon, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced to buy her written Sastra Sleuk Rith with 25,000 Riel (about US$6.25) a piece from the current price of 12,000 Riel (US$3).
The premier admired the effort of Mrs. Phoeun Phavy in struggling to continue preserving the Khmer heritage. He also advised her to go on building capacity in writing Sastra Sleuk Rith and to mobilise more villagers to get training on this skill.
Ms. Pheurn Phavy spoke highly of the attention of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, stressing that it is a success of her effort, of the Cambodian younger generation and the whole nation in preserving this priceless national heritage.
Living in Kok Thmey village, Puok commune and district, Siem Reap province, Mrs. Phavy has got this rare skill from her late father.
