Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his support to the new National Assembly (NA) Minority Leader H.E. Kem Sokha, Acting President of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), as his new dialogue partner.
Speaking at an NA’s session this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said H.E. Kem Sokha is the dialogue partner of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng, the NA Majority Leader, for the legislative issues, and with him for the national issues.
This is the first meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Kem Sokha, since the latter has been accused of sex scandal and political dissentiences between the two parties in the NA.
In January 2015, the NA issued a statement recognising H.E. Sar Kheng as the team leader of lawmakers from CPP, and H.E. Keat Chhon, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, and H.E. Ms. Men Sam An, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, as his deputies.
For the CNRP side, the self-imposed exile H.E. Sam Rainsy was recognised by the NA as the team leader, while the CNRP’s Vice President H.E. Kem Sokha, then NA Vice President, as his deputy, and H.E. Yim Sovann, a lawmaker, as secretary.
Yesterday, H.E. Kem Sokha became the team leader of lawmakers from CNRP along with his two party members, H.E. Yim Sovann and H.E. Nhem Ponharith as deputy team leaders.
The establishment of “Minority Leader” and “Majority Leader” status was agreed by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and H.E. Sam Rainsy on Nov. 28, 2014 in the meeting between both parties’ leaders on the sidelines of the 3rd session of the NA’s fifth legislature.
