Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has expressed his strong support to the key roles of Achar (laymen) and Acharini (laywomen) in Buddhist rituals and the Cambodian society.
Speaking at a get-together with representatives of Achar and Acharini from across the country held at Chaktomuk Conference Hall, Phnom Penh this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the demand for Achar and Acharini is remaining high, therefore more training for them is needed.
The premier encouraged all the Achar and Acharini to pay attention to the customs and beliefs practiced by some particular areas and to continue enhancing their knowledge, conducting more research, and compiling documents related to Cambodian culture, tradition and customs for the next generations.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen also reaffirmed the royal government’s respect to the freedom of religion and its efforts to further promote Buddhism, the state religion.
In addition, Samdech Techo Hun Sen advised the Ministry of Cults and Religion to continue organasing this yearly meeting in order to provide opportunity to Achar and Acharini to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience.
