Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has urged his compatriots to further take part in promoting the national sports sector, from the urban to rural areas.
Yesterday evening, at the National Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh the premier and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen presided over the closing ceremony of the First ever National Games, which began since Oct. 25.
“It’s true that nothing we can’t do when we’re committed to,” underlined Samdech Techo Hun Sen on his Facebook page.
According to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Phnom Penh capital won the most medals -102 out of 572 in total – of them 41 are gold, 34 are silver and 27 are bronze. Pailin, Preah Vihear and Kampong Speu provinces got the less medals with one each, while Thbong Khmum province received no medal.
About 2,700 athletes competed in 189 events of 15 kinds of sports including athletics, swimming, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, football, snooker, taekwondo, petanque, Labok Kator, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, and Shorinji Kempo, a martial art. The competitions took place at three different areas – the National Olympic Stadium, National Football Centre in Bati district of Takeo province, and Techo Sen Swimming Centre in Kampong Cham province.
This is a historical event to promote the national sports sector and to get well prepared for the 32nd Sea Games to be hosted by Cambodia in 2023.
