The weekly cabinet meeting, held here this morning under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, approved the draft National Budget Law 2017 worth in total 20,184,457 million Riel, about US$5 billion.
According to the press release of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Office of the Council of Ministers issued this afternoon, the total spending for 2017 will raise by 15.6 percent compared to that of 2016.
Based on this draft law, the monthly salary of the civil servants, armed forces, and contract officials will increase while the government’s support for child and wife of the civil servants and armed forces will rise to 10,000 Riel and 15,000 Riel, respectively.
The Royal Government of Cambodia planned to spend a total of 6,804,059 million Riel for the civil servants’ and armed forces’ monthly salary and child and spouse support, up 20.7 percent; 3,338,400 million Riel for national defense, security and social order, up 20.4 percent; 1,306,367 million Riel for economic sector, up 13.1 percent; and 4,836,498 million for social affairs sector, up 12.7 percent.
The government’s planned budget for 2016 is almost US$4.3 billion, up 16 percent from that in the previous year, of which nearly US$400 million for general administration; some US$700 million for national defense, security, and public order; almost US$300 million for economic sector; and over US$1 billion for social affairs.
