Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has announced to support the halt to verbal battle with the opposition party.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for over 1,600 students of the University of Puthisastra held here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the good political environment during the upcoming Pchum Ben Festival, saying that he will continue to follow up the situation and to see who would resume the verbal battle first.
The verbal battle between the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the main opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) flared up in recent months, and it became tense this month, especially after CNRP’s Acting President H.E. Kem Sokha was sentenced to five months in prison and a fine of 800,000 Riel (US$200) for not having appeared as a witness in court over a sex scandal case.
Last week, Samdech Techo Hun Sen released a strong political message against the CNRP’s plan to hold mass protests to demand the so-called political solution, stressing that no political solution can be found by political parties because it is the court’s jurisdiction. Moreover, early this week, the premier reiterated that there is no negotiation outside the National Assembly, an individual’s wrongdoing cannot be settled by political solution or culture of dialogue, but only by the court. On the other hand, CNRP declared on Tuesday its plan to return to the National Assembly after a few months of boycott.
