Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has appealed to the commercial banks and microfinance institutions to help and support the farmers while they are facing with the falling prices of rice paddy.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Panha Chiet University held here on Monday, Samdech Techo Hun Sen sought financial support from the commercial banks for rice paddy purchases and toleration from microfinance institutions over the farmers’ loans.
According to the premier, the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has reserved some US$20 million to buy rice paddy which has been flooding the market, and the Rural Development Bank, some US$7 million to help increase the prices of fragrant rice paddy at 840 Riel per kilogramme at the rice field.
Moreover, he added, the RGC is working to apply for US$300 million in loan from China to build rice mills, rice drying and storage facility.
