On 4 March 2016, leading the full Cabinet meeting at the Peace Palace on drafts of National Demographic Policy for 2016 through to 2030, and Measures to Prohibit Smoking or Share smoke of cigarette in working and/or public places, Samdech Techo Hun Sen advised choice of local officials for sub-national positions rather than sending someone from national level. “It is for the sake of work efficiency,” he stressed. As far as National Demographic Policy is concerned, demographic trend, and development planning addressed in four areas – development and further expansion of physical infrastructure, management of urbanization, agriculture, social investment and human resource development. The sub-decree on measures to prevent smoking and share smoke of cigarette in working and/or public places allow fines of 20,000 Riel for offended smokers, and 50,000 Riels for shop owners who failed to hang “no smoking” sign. Samdech Techo also reminded the Ministry of Public Works and Transports to expedite and provide further help for people in obtaining their driving permits and vehicle registration licenses as defined by new traffic law./.
