Samdech Techo reminded that on 20 June 1977, he (Nhek Huon) joined me in fighting the Pol Potists. He became a contributor to building the armed forces to overthrow the Khmer Rouge regime and the first platoon commander. He became commander of the regiment commander and after the liberation on 7 January 1979 he became commander of regiment 1 that protected Phnom Penh …”
Samdech Techo recalled that General Nhek Huon, currently a Four Gold Stars General and Deputy Commander in Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, scored many achievements for the country. Samdech wrote: “As I arrived, senior military officials who were there to visit him told me he did not have much to say except words that (you) must protect Samdech Hun Sen”. Bringing back to memory of the night of 20 June 1976, when crossing a minefield at the Cambodian-Vietnamese border, while removing one mine after the other to make a track for me to pass, General Nhek Huon said: “I could die but you must be alive to lead the resistance to liberate the country.” “In this state of being, how could I hold my tears?” wrote Samdech Techo. He went on “I pray for elder brother Nhek Huon to continue treatment … and encouraged him to seek treatment in hospital, no matter what his state of health may be.” From his Facebook account, Samdech Techo affirms he will continue to pay attention to former comrades in arms in his ability and wish them all good luck and peaceful life./.
