On 24 December 2015, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reminds Cambodian people on Facebook that in between 1991 and 1993, the United Nations sent multinational forces under the name of UNTAC (or United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia) to seek peace in the country. In 2006, as Prime Minister of the country, Samdech Techo recalled, “I made a crucial decision to send our troops to take part in blue berets peace keeping mission of the United Nations in many countries in the world.”
“In the past, some Cambodians hold arms and left the country to places like Algeria or Morocco,” he stressed. However, in those days, they were soldiers of the French army as Cambodia was under its colony. “For this time, troops, military police, physicians, and technicians taking their missions in Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, Syria, Lebanon, Central African Republic, Cyprus are the Cambodian forces coming from an independent, sovereign and UN member nation,” he emphasized.
Samdech Techo thanks Buddhist monks and compatriots for their supports of the Cambodian foreign policy that he sets out and bestows his gratitude upon soldiers who are on missions with courage and responsibility. Samdech Techo expressed deep condolences with families of those soldiers who died while performing their noble missions./.
