Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 246-megawatt Stung Tatay hydropower plant in Thmor Bang district of Koh Kong province, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirms that Cambodia is in peace, political stability, and development. “Those who think that Cambodia is in crisis, it is [in fact] their own crisis, and those who are happy are the Cambodian people throughout the country,” he asserted. While drawing a point that every development project has its own cost, he also made a point that Cambodia needs electricity to increase competitiveness, generate jobs, and develop the economy, though we lose some forests in exchange.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen appealed to development partners, mainly China, for further financial support for Cambodia’s electricity distribution and transmission projects, while recommending efforts to expand energy distribution network, national transmission network, and decrease of energy prices for households whose monthly consumption of electricity is 50 KVA and below.
