Samdech Techo Hun Sen told the United Nations Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda in New York: “Cambodia is proud of her progress in the past two decades, especially her achievement in maintaining full peace, firm political stability, good security and public order, and high economic growth of 7.7 percent per annum on average.” He made a point that the poverty rate in Cambodia dropped significantly from over 53 percent in 2004 to only 16 percent in 2013 and stressed Cambodia achieves the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on poverty reduction and other social affairs before the set date of 2015. He also affirmed that Cambodia expects to realize the remaining goals by the end of this year. Samdech Techo also vows that Cambodia is moving to be a lower-middle-income country in 2016, while affirming that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set based on the MDGs, are suitable for Cambodia’s context and Cambodia will also include mine and UXO clearance as another goal in the SDGs./.
