Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen confirmed that he rejected the $22 billion investment in Titanium mining in Chi Pat, Koh Kong province for the sake of 20,000 hectares forest conservation, wildlife protection, and prevention of soil erosion, addressing at the 7th Sea Festival in Koh Kong province on Saturday under the slogan “Ecotourism for Green Growth and Sustainable Development”.
“The Ministry of Mines and Energy has submitted the proposal on the investment of US$22 billion in titanium mining, but I will not give up the 20,000 hectares of forest in Chi Pat,” said Prime Minister Hun Sen.
“The forest is the shelter of elephants and other rare species; this, I haven’t counted the negative impacts of soil erosion and the change of sea color from blue to red,” he added.
Head of the Royal Government of Cambodia underlined that Cambodia needs investment, but the Kingdom has to address the destruction that will upon people.
“I will let the next generation consider titanium mining exploitation that would not impact environment”.
