Responding to the needs and concerns of workers, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has decided to provide benefits and pension for workers from nine factories, five located in Phnom Penh, one in Kandal and three in Kampong Speu provinces, according to a Ministry of Labor’s press release on Thursday.
The Ministry of Labor also called on former workers from Keo factory, located in Samrong Tong district, Kampong Speu province, to receive wages and benefits from the Department of Employment of Kampong Speu Province, effective from June 7 to15, 2018.
Workers must bring required documents such as original employee identification, employment book, social security or national identity card or passport or employment contract, and monthly wage card.
The press release came after Prime Minister Hun Sen urged Minister of Labor Ith Sam Heng to solve workers’ problems related to the compensation during his meeting with 16,474 workers from 10 factories in Kandal province at the end of May.
The premier also said that the amendments of the labor law allowed factories to resolve worker’s pension every six months and it aims to prevent the issue of bankrupt-and-run.
